THE LT12

Inspired by René Lacoste and the musketeers, who believed that true victory was to remain elegant whatever the effort, the LT12 reinvents the traditional racket by combinning wood and graphite for the first time. With this rare object, Lacoste shares a unique vision of tennis and sport.

THE CONCEPT

The time has come to rewrite the rules of designing and crafting tennis rackets.Calling on both the brand’s historical know-how and specialised expertise,Lacoste launches the LT12, a comtemporary model that combines thrtee kinds of wood (lime, walnut and balsa) withe high modulus graphite engineered by aeronautics researchers.

AN ENCOUNTER
OF THE MINDS

The idea of the LT12 originated during a meeting between two talents who brought together two kinds of expertise and understandings of different materials. A technical prowess achieved thanks to Alain Gallais, René lacoste’s historical collaborator, and Alain Zanco, celebrated French ski artisan, two enthusiasts who spent almost three years developing this unique gem.

THE BEGINNINGS,
rené lacoste

15 years of collaboration between the champion and his racket engineer brought to life the concept of the lt12.

Inventor! If i had to print a title on my business card, this would be it. I have been inventing all my life.
René Lacoste

THE FUSION
OF MATERIALS

Merging the qualities of wood with the technology of graphite for comfort and power. Wood provides a comfortable grip and dampens vibrations, while graphite allows more control and increased ball speed.

A HYBRID RACKET,
70% WOOD AND 30% GRAPHITE

The LT12 is made of three types of wood combined with High Modulus Graphite (graphite used in aeronautical research). Wood provides a comfortable grip and dampens vibrations, while graphite improves control and increases ball speed. The LT12 racket is entirely hand made by a french artisan, Alain Zanco.

LIME TREE

Low-density wood with interlocked grain which gives it the ability to filter out micro-vibrations: placed in inner periphery of the frame for excellent vibration damping of the cords.

GRAPHITE

Quality of very light graphite (carbon fiber) with a very high modulus, used in aerospace (brands such as Airbus, Boeing, etc.). Ensuring cohesion of the whole in addition to improving stiffness of the frame of the racket.

BALSA

For LT12, the thread (grain) of this wood is oriented towards the center of the racket, to obtain a large compressive strength and excellent stabilization during deformation and excellent vibration damping of frame of the racket.

WALNUT

High mechanical properties, very nervous: placed at outer periphery of the frame to give the best support for the Balsa core and reduce the polar inertia. For LT12 two laminated planks are usedwhose threads are brought into opposition in order to limit the deformation. Also an excellent vibration damping of the frame of the racket.

STORIES OF RACKETS

After inventing the polo shirt and the tennis ball launcher, Lacoste quite logically decided to patent his first racket models.

I wanted to give back to tennis what it had given me
René Lacoste

WOOD

Up until the invention of the steel racket, the wooden racket has been a standard in elite tennis. It even remained a high performance object for a number of years after the arrival of the metal racket.

METAL

In 1961, the former champion unveiled one of his most brilliant inventions that completely transformed the game: the metal racket. René Lacoste had been working on it since1931.

THE EQUIJET

René Lacoste patented the “EQUISYSTEME” and invented the Equijet in 1988. This new racket model combined the advantages of smaller and larger string beds.

THE LT12

The LT12 at combines three kinds of wood (lime, walnut and balsa) with high modulus graphite engineered by aeronautics researchers.

IT IS A RARE AND UNIQUE OBJECT.
I LIKE THAT IT’S BOTH VINTAGE AND MODERN.

René Lacoste is the best example of the link between sport and elegance. He always paid close attention to cuts, colors, the overall appearance of the outfits he wore on courts.
But the technical aspect was also at the heart of his work.
