A curiously Japanese form of track cycling - now an Olympic event. You may have seen the British cyclists dominate this event at this year’s Olympic Games but don’t be fooled, Keirin is about as alien to Great Britain as decent fish or a punctual rail system. Meaning ‘racing wheels’, Keirin was invented in Japan in 1948 for gambling purposes, and it only made became an Olympic sport in the year 2000.
