We met MNDR when she was recording her debut album in a small studio in Brooklyn. At night we attended her gig in one of the hippest clubs of the city and she showed us New York by night.

- About MNDR -

FROM HUMBLE COUNTRY ROOTS TO HAVING MARK RONSON ON SPEED DIAL, AMANDA WARNER HAS COME A LONG WAY. HER ELECTRO DUO MNDR IS THE SOUNDTRACK TO YOUNG LOVE IN NEW YORK CITY.

Amanda’s not your average city girl. Raised on a farm in a large family, her early years were a far cry from the pulsating sounds and rhythms of NYC. Still, she credits these modest beginnings as being crucial to awakening her passion for music.‘My father was a musician and we had a simple 4 track recording studio on our farm’ she says nostalgically.

A hidden sanctuary that enabled her to draw upon various influences growing up, from country and gospel to grindcore. What started as teenage experimentation evolved into a fully blown obsession. And Amanda’s not scared to admit it. ‘Music is what motivates me to make every decision in my life. It’s my passion and it decides where I live, what I’ll be doing at any moment and often it’s more important than, like, the basic necessities of life!’

Such dedication to the cause is apparent in her music and performances. Frequently waking up at ‘four or five in the morning’ to sketch out lyrics and melodies, she appreciates the zen-like calm of these moments. The rest of her waking hours are spent in her NY studio where she has chosen to meet us, thrashing out songs with her writing partner Peter Wade.

‘Here is where all of the ideas, the little concepts, the little melodies and the world that we’re trying to build sort of come together and make something that’s real, that’s tangible, that’s understandable’ she enthuses, amidst a mountain of vintage synths. On stage, Amanda is no less exacting. Her pulsating live shows are unique as much for the personality of the vintage instruments that she chooses to use as for the vivid graphic universe that sets the scene.

In her own words, her shows are all about connecting with people. ‘It’s sort of savage and primal. I don’t really have anything to hide. I think that for me offstage and onstage is one and the same person’. Confident words from a self-professed ‘West coast girl with a laid-back attitude’. Amanda is a charming paradox. Her tranquil upbringing and small-town ways have built over the years into a synth-pop crescendo fitting for the most electric of stages... New York City.
