LACOSTE - ZAHA HADID
Discover the new Lacoste shoes designed by Zaha Hadid !
THE CONCEPT
The LACOSTE footwear project began with a digitized version of the iconic crocodile logo. Hadid’s research team then used this as a basis to explore a series of surfaces with repeated patterns.
‘The design expression behind the collaboration with LACOSTE footwear allows the evolution of dynamic fluid grids’, explains Hadid. ‘When wrapped around the shape of a foot, these expand and contract to negotiate and adapt to the body ergonomically. In doing so a landscape emerges, undulating and radiating as it merges seamlessly with the body’.
To create this landscape effect in a shoe, leather will be treated and stretched over stainless steel plates that have had Direct Metal Laser Sintering to replicate the atterns. The sole for the shoes, which will come in both men’s and women’s versions, also features a similar topography.

ZAHA HADID
Zaha Hadid was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize (considered to be the Nobel Prize of architecture) in 2004. Each of her dynamic and innovative projects builds on over 30 years of revolutionary experimentation and research in the interrelated fields of urbanism, architecture and design. Hadid’s work constantly tests the boundaries of architecture and design. hadid’s interest is in the rigorous interface between architecture, landscape and geology as the practice integrates natural topology and human-made systems that lead to experimentation with cutting-edge technologies. Such a project often results in unexpected and dynamic architectural forms moulded by the realities of site and building requirements.
Zaha Hadid Architects are working on a multitude of projects including the Aquatices Centre for the London 2012 Olympic Games, the Dubai Financial Market Towers, as well as Opera Houses in Dubai and Guangzhou, China.
Hadid’s work of the past 30 years was the subject of a retrospective at New York’s Guggenheim Museum in 2006 and was showcased last summer at the Design Museum in London. The practice’s most recently completed projects include the Nordpark Railway stations in Innsbruck. Mobile Art: Chanel Contemporary Art Container and the Zaragoza Bridge Pavilion in Spain.
