How to look after your Lacoste bag?
Handbags, totes, shoulder bags, crossbody bags, backpacks… keep your Lacoste bag looking its best and extend its lifespan by following these steps:
Good practices
- Alternate bags: To let the material breathe and preserve its natural shape, avoid using the same bag several days in a row.
- Weight: To avoid deformation or weakened stitching, do not exceed 0.5 kg for small bags (e.g., a 500 ml bottle), 1 kg for medium bags (a 1 L bottle), or 3 kg for large bags (two 1.5 L bottles).
- Shape: When not in use, fill the bag with clean paper.
- Storage: Store it in a dry place, away from sunlight, and any source of humidity.
- Dusting: Regularly wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and surface dirt.
1 – Protection
Protect your bag before using it for the first time. Spray it with a protective product suitable for its material, and remember to reapply it on a regular basis.
- For leather, use a suitable nourishing conditioner or spray designed to maintain softness and shine.
- For suede, use a specially formulated protective spray.
- Avoid prolonged contact with water, oil, alcohol, cosmetics, or solvents.
Note: Light-colored bags are sensitive to colour transfer from friction with certain clothing (such as raw denim or other leathers).
2 – Cleaning
Give your bag a regular refresh. Wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and surface dirt, shake it out occasionally to remove debris, and use a dry or slightly damp cloth if needed. Then, depending on the material:
- Leather bags: clean the leather with a cloth soaked in colorless leather conditioner.
- Suede bag: use an appropriate brush to remove dirt, then apply a specially formulated protective spray.
- Canvas or fabric bags: Clean them with a lightly damp cloth or sponge, focusing only on the affected areas and avoiding excess water.
- Synthetic bags (PVC, PU, etc.): clean with a damp cloth and, if needed, a little mild soap.
3 – Drying
After cleaning your bag, let it air-dry in a dry, well-ventilated place. Avoid any direct source of heat (radiators, hair dryers, sunlight).
