A 20th career title, a 6th Masters 1000 trophy and his first sliverwear on clay.
Dressed in the crocodile from head to toe, and following back to back victories over top seeded clay court specialists earlier in the week, Daniil Medvedev revealed the full extent of his tenacity to prevail in the final in Rome.
His reaction on the court as he took match point said it all. Daniil slumped to his knees on the clay in Rome showing just how much the title means to our hard court specialist.
" It used to be I couldn't play well on clay. Nothing worked for me" recalls Daniil following his victory in Rome. "But whatever the surface I always believe in myself and try to do my best on the tennis court. And recently I hadn't been playing so bad in Monte Carlo and Madrid. But winning a Masters 1000 on this surface? Who would have thought that was possible? " he continues.
Daniil's victory in Rome could mark a turning point in the world number 2's relationship with the ocre surface.
